Key Non-Governmental Funding Agencies
CADR is a division of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), which establishes
and supports
programs that promote oral health research. CADR provides awards and fellowships for students and
researchers
of oral health in Canada.
The Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute funds the most promising cancer research through its
world-renowned
peer review process. This institute offers programs that help train, develop, and support the next
generation
of cancer researchers.
CFDHRE exists to enhance the oral health and well-being of Canadians through dental hygiene research
and
education. The foundation's undertakings include conducting and disseminating research, publishing
useful
materials, and educating the public.
CFI invests in Canadian research by providing funding to Canadian research institutions, including
universities
and research hospitals. CFI funding allows Canadian institutions the freedom of innovation for the
betterment
of Canada.
The Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement (CFHI) supports partners to accelerate the
identification, spread and scale of proven healthcare innovations. We work shoulder-to-shoulder with
you to improve health and care for everyone in Canada.
CFHI is a not-for-profit organization funded by Health Canada.
CIFAR (formerly CIAR) provides funding programs for research projects that tackle challenging
questions about
the natural world and human society.
CRS is a national not-for-profit organization that funds cancer research exclusively and offers seed
money
for the most promising cancer research in Canada.
JDRF research priorities reflect three fundamental goals: restoration of normal blood sugar levels;
avoidance
and improved treatment for complications; and prevention of diabetes and its recurrence.
Federal & Provincial Funding Agencies
CIHR integrates research through a unique interdisciplinary structure made up of 13 virtual
institutes. CIHR's
institutes are networks of researchers brought together to focus on important health problems. The

institutes are:
Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions is a publicly funded, board-governed corporation that delivers
funding
and support to a broad provincial community that spans all dimensions of health research and
innovation
activity.
MCHPE is the research unit in the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Medicine. MCHPE conducts
research on
how health care services are used by Manitobans, by examining topics such as illness patterns and
population
health relations.
NSERC supports university-based research and training in all the natural sciences and engineering.
The Nova Scotia government established the Research Nova Scotia Corporation (RNS) to foster research
and development contributing to improved social and economic outcomes for Nova Scotians.
SSHRC-funded research fuels innovative thinking about real life issues, including education, health
care,
the environment, immigration, globalization, poverty, politics, addiction, Aboriginal rights, the
past,
and our future.
International Funding Agencies
The ADHA Institute for Oral Health funds educational scholarships, fellowships, research grants, and
community
service grants to dental hygienists throughout the United States.
AICR is a cancer charity that fosters research on diet and cancer prevention, interprets the
evidence, and
educates the public about the results .
CDC is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. CDC awards and
administers
grants for research programs in disease control and prevention, including research in oral health.
CF is a private foundation that awards grants for health care research and promotes a health care
system
that works for everyone, including low-income people, the uninsured, minority Americans, young
children,
and elderly adults.
IADR provides programs that promote oral health research worldwide. They provide fellowships,
awards, and
competitions for the oral health research community.
NIDCR aims to improve oral, dental, and craniofacial health through research, research training, and
the
dissemination of health information. The organization also conducts and funds research-training and
career-development
programs for researchers.
NIH is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and provides grants
for health-related
research and research-training projects in the United States.
