Indigenous Student Bursary Program Update
The
CDHA–HuFriedy Group Indigenous Student Bursary Program has
now concluded, and recipients for the third and final year have been
selected.
Launched in 2023, this three year initiative was created to support
Indigenous dental hygiene students as they transitioned from education into
professional practice. It helped offset costs such as examination and
regulatory registration fees, and professional association dues.
About the Initiative
The Indigenous Student Bursary was made possible through a partnership
between CDHA and HuFriedy Group. Members and dental professionals were
invited to purchase a limited edition HuFriedy EverEdge 204S sickle scaler
with orange signature grips with100% of the proceeds directed to the
bursary, ensuring direct financial support for eligible students.
An Indigenous Led Approach
The program was intentionally Indigenous led and guided by Indigenous cultures and voices. CDHA established an Indigenous Student Bursary Advisory Committee to ensure that the language, imagery, and overall approach were culturally grounded and respectful.
Bursary Impact
Over the three years of the program, bursary amounts were determined by
the number of applicants, and funds being divided equally among recipients
each year:
- 2023: 16 recipients
- 2024: 11 recipients
- 2025: 15 recipients
Looking Ahead
While the Indigenous Student Bursary Program has now concluded, CDHA
remains committed to supporting Indigenous communities and advancing
equity, inclusion, and reconciliation within the dental hygiene
profession. We thank HuFriedy Group, our members, and all purchasers of
the limited edition instruments for helping make this initiative possible.
CDHA thanks the HuFriedyGroup and the members of the Indigenous Student
Bursary Advisory Committee for their contributions and guidance: Stephanie
