Healthy Professional Worker Partnership
The Healthy Professional Worker (HPW) Partnership study is a cross-Canada collaboration with relevant industry and professional organizations that examined the mental health of workers both before and during the pandemic. The professions originally part of the study included academia, accounting, dentistry, medicine, midwifery, nursing, and teaching. During the study, a partnership was created between the HPW Partnership and CDHA to include dental hygienists in a subset series of questions from their original study.
The analyses of data obtained for the dental hygiene profession can be found in the CDHA commissioned report and infographic. Some of the areas specific to dental hygienists include:
- Levels of mental health and rates of burnout and distress prior to and during the pandemic.
- Comparison between the percentage who wanted to take a leave of absence and those who did.
- Barriers that prevented them from taking a leave of absence during the pandemic.
- Percentage who intend to quit their practice or the profession.
- Data comparison between the dental hygiene profession and other health care professions, including dentistry, midwifery, and nursing.
- And more
Listen to the leaders of the HPW project, Drs. Ivy Bourgeault and Henrietta Akuamoah-Boateng, summarize the mental health experiences of dental hygienists in the webinar, Pandemic Impact on Mental Health of Dental Hygienists.
