CDHA’s Parliament Hill Day 2024

CDHA held a “mini” Hill Day on May 30, 2024, to meet with members of Parliament, senators, and policymakers. The apparent increase in the level of familiarity with and understanding of dental hygienists among Parliamentarians is very meaningful in the context of advocacy work and gains over the long-term. Highlights from CDHA’s 2023 Parliament Hill Day and kick-off to National Dental Hygienists Week™

CDHA board directors gathered in Ottawa in March to raise awareness among Parliamentarians of the dental hygiene profession and access to oral health care issues. Meetings were held with the federal seniors’ minister, the leader of the New Democratic Party, and others. Board directors also discussed the oral health care needs of residents in long-term care homes, the implementation of the federal dental care program, and the expansion of student loan forgiveness to dental hygienists. CDHA’s Virtual Parliament Hill Day 2022

CDHA’s Hill Day was held on April 5, during National Dental Hygienists Week™ (NDHW™). Senior staff and board members participated in a full day of virtual meetings to discuss our priorities and share information on the important role dental hygienists play in the everyday lives of Canadians. In particular, we stressed the urgency of supporting the oral health care needs of vulnerable seniors. Read more.

CDHA’s Virtual Parliament Hill Day 2021

This year, CDHA’s Parliament Hill Day was very different from years past. On February 18, CDHA’s board of directors and key staff took part in a full day of virtual meetings with parliamentarians to raise awareness of the dental hygiene profession, the need to improve access to oral care, and the importance of developing of national standards for oral health for seniors living in long-term care homes. Additional talking points focused on the impact of the pandemic on the dental hygiene profession and a universal oral health care plan for seniors. Read more.

CDHA Parliament Hill Day 2020

In February 2020, CDHA’s board of directors and key staff spent the day on Parliament Hill to raise awareness of the issues affecting the oral health of Canadians and the dental hygiene profession. Meetings were held with more than 30 members of Parliament, senators, and senior staff to discuss universal dental care, preventive oral care for seniors, vaping, and more. Read more.
