CDHA is pleased to present our 2025–2027 Dental Hygiene Research Agenda, a
strategic and unifying framework for prioritizing and guiding research
efforts across the profession.
Focused dental hygiene-driven research is both consistent with and
essential to the profession’s continued growth and meaningful integration
into the wider health care system. Without a research agenda specific to
dental hygiene, critical knowledge gaps and emerging areas where
evidence-informed solutions are most needed to shape practice and policy
may be overlooked.
The research agenda sets out four primary domains for dental hygiene
research investigations, collaborations, and investments:
- Oral Health Frameworks
- Access to Dental Hygiene Care and Unmet Needs
- Capacity Building of the Dental Hygiene Profession
- Health and Safety (Practitioners and Patients/Clients)
This update of our 2022–2024 research agenda was prepared following
consultation with our Research Advisory Committee and dialogue with the
broader dental hygiene research community. The goal of this updated dental
hygiene research agenda is to present a structured yet flexible set of
priorities within a broad thematic framework. It is not meant to be an
exhaustive inventory of topics or subtopics relevant to the field.
