CDHA Statement: Registered Dental Hygienists Are Essential Primary Health Care Professionals

CDHA’s board of directors recently approved a statement that dental hygienists, as primary health care professionals, play a critical role in public and population health and should be considered essential workers in Canada. Such recognition should give dental hygienists priority access to government distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) and to vaccines alongside other essential workers, both of which will help to ensure the health and safety of dental hygienists and their clients. The full statement is available here.

COVID-19 Vaccine Survey: Preliminary Results

Thank you to the 4,689 members who responded to our recent quick poll on COVID-19 vaccines. We learned that 54% of you plan to be vaccinated immediately and another 18% plan to be vaccinated during the coming year. Members who have concerns about the approved COVID-19 vaccines (27%) are most worried about possible side effects and their long-term efficacy, as well as the speed of the vaccine development process. Using your responses as our guide, CDHA plans to develop resources on vaccine safety and efficacy over the next few months to support you and your clients in making evidence-informed decisions regarding vaccination.
