Summary
In 2017, the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European
Federation of Periodontology (EFP) updated the
Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and
Conditions. Since the 1999 classification, the continued use of clinical attachment
calculations with confirmation of radiographic bone loss standardizes the
language used to classify the severity and extent of disease.
Educators are required to incorporate the updated classification system
into didactic and clinical curriculum. This webinar will explore common
calibration challenges with a focus on clinical attachment and
radiographic bone loss. Example exercises and decision-making strategies
for students and faculty will also be presented.
Presenter

Learning Outcomes
After the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Use basic signs to communicate with the deaf community
-
Incorporate the steps for staging and grading of periodontitis
according to the 2017 AAP World Workshop on the Classification of
Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions (WWDC) into
didactic and clinical curriculum
-
Identify common errors and calibration issues related to the
determination of clinical attachment loss and radiographic bone loss
-
Describe a histological and anatomical approach when comparing
clinical attachment loss to radiographic bone loss
-
Utilize the decision-making tools from the 2017 AAP WWDC for student
and faculty clinical calibration
