Put Your Purple On! Campaign

An important part of National Dental Hygienists Week is our very successful "Put Your Purple On" campaign that encourages members to display their professional pride.

Share our national colouring contest sheets with your clients and support our Facebook #17in17 challenge. Join the celebration and spread the word!

Illustrate your passion and pride for the profession by taking and sharing purple-themed photos. Flash mob group shots in purple clothing, purple-themed displays, have a community landmark (building, bridge etc.) lit up purple – you are limited only by your imagination. The more original, the better! Just four simple steps:

Incorporate the poster in your photos.*

Use hashtags #dhpurplepride and #ndhw17, tag @thecdha and post on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

Submit them to marketing@cdha.ca and we'll add them to our image gallery.

*Don't forget you need permission of those in the photo in order to submit and if photos contain image of a client you should retain a photo release form.

The 2018 contest will open in February.

Why Purple?

The colour purple is synonymous with dental hygiene, and has been the official colour of dental professionals since 1897 when lilac was first chosen for the emblem of the National Association of Dental Faculties. Purple has long been the trim colour for dental hygiene graduates' caps and gowns and is said to signify compassion, purpose, and inspiration.

Purple Landmarks

An exciting part of the Put Your Purple On campaign is the lighting of municipal landmarks. In 2017 the following landmarks were lit in purple:

  • Vancouver Olympic Cauldron
  • BC Place Stadium
  • Calgary Tower
  • Reconciliation (Langevin) Bridge (Calgary)
  • Edmonton High-Level Bridge
  • Toronto City Hall Towers
  • Brampton Clock Tower
  • Peace Bridge (Fort Erie/Buffalo)
  • Welland Bridge
  • St. John's Convention Centre

Think about what you could have lit up in your community and use this sample letter to make your request.
