Celebrating Excellence: 2025 CDHA Award Winners

CDHA recognizes exceptional volunteer service and outstanding scholarship through its award programs.

The board of directors is delighted to announce Mary Bertone as the winner of this year’s Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her significant contributions to the advancement of the dental hygiene profession in Canada. Also honoured, as recipients of this year’s Award of Merit, are Laura Iorio and Lezah Evan.

The editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Dental Hygiene (CJDH) announces the winners of its 2025 research and writing awards:

Best Original Research Article: Nathalie Vanstraelen, Mihai Tarce, Johanna de Almeida Mello, Katleen Vandamme, and Joke Duyck
Best Literature Review: Ilena S Yim, Lewei Zhang, Iris Lin, and Denise M Laronde

The Oh Canada! 2025 Readers’ Choice Award, as voted by CDHA members, goes to Kyla Oshanek and Lisa Watson. Their article, ”From the Womb: Dental Hygienists’ Role in Promoting Lifelong Health Through Integrated Oral Care,” was published in Summer 2024.

The Canadian Foundation for Dental Hygiene Research and Education (CFDHRE) is inviting applications for one new member on its board of directors. This individual will help advance CFDHRE’s mission to develop a fund to enable dental hygiene research and education that enhances the oral health and well-being of all persons living on the lands now known as Canada.
