Entry-to-Practice Canadian Competencies for Dental Hygienists, 2021
This document presents the Entry-to-Practice Canadian Competencies for Dental Hygienists. The competencies provide a pan-Canadian entry-level benchmark for practitioners, educators, regulators, assessment and accreditation providers, other stakeholders, and the public. The competencies present a detailed description of the knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviours, and judgment required at entry to practice.
Educators' Survey Report, 2018
CDHA endeavours to promote quality education programs to advance the profession of dental hygiene. To stay
abreast of trends in the Canadian dental hygiene educator community, CDHA conducted its fourth national
survey to update its profile of Canadian dental hygiene educators. Themes in the survey included educators’
work environments, experiences with educational approaches, and opinions on different national policy
issues.

This document presents a competency profile for 4-year baccalaureate programs designed to educate oral
health
practitioners with both dental hygiene and dental therapy scopes of practice.
Student Member Survey, 2017
CDHA believes that it is important to continually examine the educational preparation of dental hygienists
so that
graduates are well equipped to address the evolving needs of the public. CDHA conducted its first national
student
survey to gain knowledge about educational preparation for the dental hygiene profession and respondents’
future
educational aspirations and intentions.

CDHA is proud to announce the release of the Canadian Competencies for Baccalaureate Dental Hygiene
Programs, 2015.
Baccalaureate dental hygiene education is a critical step along the pathway from diploma to doctoral
programs
within Canada and internationally. It supports a continuum of education for the dental hygiene profession,
and
it is now important to establish a standard for such education in Canada.
ETP Competencies & Standards for Canadian Dental Hygienists, 2010
The development of this document was a collaborative project involving the major stakeholders responsible
for the
profession; Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA), Federation of Dental Hygiene Regulatory
Authorities
(FDHRA), Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC), National Dental Hygiene Certification Board
(NDHCB)
and dental hygiene educators. All provincial dental hygiene regulatory authorities have agreed in principle
to
adopt and implement the new competencies and standards document.
Pathways to Support the Oral Health of Canadians: The CDHA Dental Hygiene Education Agenda, 2009
The CDHA Education Agenda explores variables that influence the dental hygiene profession and impact the
educational
needs of dental hygienists as they strive to promote the oral health of Canadians. This document calls for
increased
access to bachelor degree programs, complemented by master, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies that allow
dental
hygienists to use and expand their growing body of knowledge.
