The Dental Hygiene Process of Care: Is Your Practice on Track?
Jo-Anne Jones, DipDH, RDH
The Dental Hygiene Process of Care (DHPC) is the structural framework upon which all dental hygiene practices should base client-specific treatment planning. Dental hygienists’ documentation must incorporate assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, a dental hygiene care plan, the recording of interventions, as well as the required process for evaluation.
This course will highlight the most common deficiencies as well as the required documentation for the DHPC. Participants will have an opportunity to self-assess their own dental hygiene practice throughout each phase of the DHPC. The Standards of Practice will provide the framework essential for reflecting quality in dental hygiene practice.
After the event, participants will be able to
- recognize the components of the Dental Hygiene Process of Care (DHPC).
- understand the relevance of data collection and correlation of findings to aid in the remainder of the DHPC.
- understand the dynamic nature of the assessment phase and how it impacts the care plan and implementation.
- possess an understanding of evaluation/management and referral as it pertains to individualized client needs and treatment outcomes.
- interpret professional responsibility of reflection of the DHPC as it applies to documentation requirements.
