United in Our Professional Pride

FEATURE
Nominations are now open for our third annual Dental Hygiene Superhero competition! Join forces with CDHA to recognize dental hygiene health care superheroes in communities across Canada.

We’re celebrating those dental hygienists who educate and empower their clients to embrace the “oral health for total health” motto. We want to recognize oral health care providers who are ambassadors of the profession and model exceptional client care, and to hear the stories of dental hygienists who are changing lives every day.

Employers, clients or colleagues may nominate their dental hygiene superhero. Nominees must be CDHA members (we will verify) or may join to be considered. There are thousands of dollars in prizes to be awarded courtesy of CDHA PLUS travel grants to CDHA’s 2020 Yukon Summit. Championed by your oral health defender CDHA and sponsored by Sensodyne®, the competition runs from February 1 to May 11.

Please help us unmask these special superheroes. If you KNOW a #dentalhygienesuperhero, nominate him or her today! If you ARE a dental hygiene superhero, share the details of this competition with your employers and clients!

The February issue of the Canadian Journal of Dental Hygiene (CJDH) is now available online only. It features original research articles on the challenges faced by mature female students when completing or furthering dental hygiene education; how a community-based, stigma-free dental hygiene program may be influencing access to care for people living with HIV/AIDS; and the potential of commercial mouthwashes and gels to control bacteria growth on titanium implant collar surfaces. You’ll also find CDHA’s newest position paper on the evidence of a causal relationship between periodontal disease and cardiovascular diseases, as well as a short communication offering important recommendations for writing high-quality introductions to manuscripts and grant applications.

A contract outlines the expectations of both the workplace and the worker. Similarly, a workplace harassment policy details what harassment, bullying, and abuse are and what steps an employee can take if they experience or witness such incidents. CDHA has resources to help you develop harassment policies and contract templates for your dental office as well as a new resource that outlines steps to help you negotiate a compensation package. These are all available in the new healthy and respectful workplace area of our website.
