Education Session
Session Information
Do you have what it takes to read and interpret a patient’s medical history and identify potential
contraindications to
dental treatment and/or treatment plan modifications?
What potential complications lurk behind the patient’s medical history that may impact dental
therapy, alter treatment
plans and perhaps even result in medical emergencies? Armed only with a summary of past and current
disease states and a
list of current medications, will you be able to decipher the clues, solve the mystery and employ
innovative treatment
strategies to save the day?
This program will provide an overview of the dental hygiene implications of the prescription
and non-prescription medications and supplements frequently used by patients as well as
the medications frequently used in the dental office. Special emphasis will be placed on
providing dental hygienists with practical tools they can apply every day in interpreting a
patient’s medical history and understanding the impact on patient care.
