Summary

Interventions for preventing dental caries seem to be accepted by clinicians and clients as effective ways to reduce the risk of these lesions. Fluoride varnishes and sealants are two common and widely available options that can be administered to clients of all ages. Two recently published Cochrane systematic reviews summarize the evidence from randomized control trials on these interventions. The clinical effectiveness of these preventive methods and the confidence in the estimates of effect (quality of the evidence) using the GRADE approach will be discussed.
