Summary

There are limited spaces available for our half-day workshop that will include both lecture and hands-on activities—and breakfast! Piezo technology fundamentals will be reviewed and participants will analyze and utilize a variety of piezo tips on typodonts. Activity-based exercises will focus on the physical designs of the piezo tip working ends in relation to the specific objectives of the treatment procedure and the areas of use. This session will also include exercises involving tactile sensitivity, care and maintenance, and instrumentation techniques. Guidelines will be offered to aid the clinician in selecting the appropriate tips to deliver optimal treatment.

Learning objectives

After attending the session, participants will be able to:

  • evaluate magnetostrictive and piezo-electric ultrasonic technology and their use in dental hygiene therapy
  • distinguish benefits and limitations of magnetostrictive and piezo-electric ultrasonic technology
  • exhibit proficiency with grip ergonomics, tip adaptation and stroke patterning with piezo-electric instruments
  • demonstrate dexterity at root instrumentation techniques with piezo-electric instruments
