Summary
If you provide oral health care to First Nations and Inuit clients that have benefits under the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program,
whether in a dental practice or your own business, this presentation is for you! It provides dental hygienists an
overview of the NIHB program, the federal role in oral health, as well as information and resources available to NIHB
clients and providers.
Questions for the speaker will be collected from participants until December 4 and the speaker will endeavour to answer
as many questions as possible. There will also be a live question and answer session at the end of the presentation.
The virtual platform will be Zoom. Be sure to download the Zoom app before joining this session. Closed captioning and
translated captions in real time are available on Zoom if joining from a Windows or macOS desktop computer. You must
have the latest version of Zoom. A variety of languages are supported.

Director, Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Dental Policy Development Division
Alyssa Hayes is a dental public health specialist currently working as the director of the Dental Policy Development
Division, Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB), Department of Indigenous Services Canada/Government of Canada. She
completed her dental training in Sydney, Australia, where she worked for several years prior to returning to Canada to
complete her specialty training at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hayes is a former assistant professor at the College
of Dentistry, University of Saskatchewan.
