Summary

This webinar will discuss the factors contributing to dentin hypersensitivity, types of pain stimuli, and pain impulse conduction theories while providing clinical evidence supporting over-the-counter and professionally applied desensitizing agents. Oral health professionals will be provided with evidence-based strategies to provide optimal care for clients affected by dentin hypersensitivity. Two treatment protocols available will be discussed and options for both in-office and at-home protocols will be presented.

Learning objectives

  • Evaluate treatment options to plan a program for evidenced-based, in-office treatment and home care for a patient to control or treat hypersensitivity

Mariana Leon, RDH, DDS

Mariana is an Academic Relations Manager for Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals based in Montreal, Quebec. Mariana earned her dental hygiene degree from Maisonneuve College in Montreal, a doctor of dental surgery degree from San Martin University in Peru, and has accumulated over 10 years of clinical experience as both a dental hygienist and a dentist. Before joining Colgate, she was an Education Manager at Philips where she presented programs in Eastern Canada.

Mariana has a passion for education and oral health which serves her well in her role of providing educational programs for dental professionals and students in Canada, in both English and French. Mariana’s experience and exposure within Montreal’s dental community has helped her develop a large network of oral health professionals, while learning different techniques, methods and protocols used in an array of dental practices.

Mariana is an active member of the Ordre des hygiénistes dentaires du Québec and the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association.

Victoria Leck, MHM, RDH

Victoria has 26 years of experience as a dental hygienist, with 18 of those spent in public health. She is a graduate of the dental hygiene program at Canadore College, holds a bachelor’s degree in health administration from Ryerson University, and a master's degree in health management from McMaster University. Victoria is the manager of professional development at the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association.
