Although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected CDHA’s ability to host in-person events this year, we are pleased to host our first-ever virtual conference! We are happy to bring learning and opportunity to you in the comfort of your home.

1. What is a virtual conference?

A virtual conference is a real-time event that takes place over the internet using a virtual event platform and online media. Similar to online education, this innovative approach will allow you to participate in the conference safely from the comfort of your home. You will experience many of the same features that an in-person conference would offer, including an exhibit hall, scientific program, and opening ceremonies. Plus, there will be some new conference elements this year for you to enjoy!

2. Why is CDHA hosting a virtual conference?

While CDHA was hopeful that an in-person event could take place in October 2021, we ultimately decided that a virtual conference would best ensure the health and safety of our members, presenters, and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

3. When is the virtual conference taking place?

The virtual conference is taking place Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30, 2021.

4. How much will it cost to register for the virtual conference?

Great news! CDHA recognizes how challenging this past year has been for our members. In recognition of your hard work and dedication to the oral health of Canadians, CDHA is pleased to offer a special, low 2021 conference registration price to CDHA members who renew prior to October 26: $20.21. Current members who do not plan to renew their membership for the 2021-2022 year (beginning on November 1) will still be eligible for a conference rate of $99.00. Applicable taxes will be added to both rates based on province of residence.

5. When does registration open for the virtual conference?

Registration will open July 27.

6. Is there a registration deadline for the virtual conference?

Registration closes October 26 at 12 pm ET.

7. Will I be able to request a refund for my virtual conference registration?

No. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

8. How do I access the virtual conference?

Registrants will be contacted by Matchbox Virtual Media (MVM) one week prior to the event at the email account in your CDHA profile. The email from MVM will contain a link to the conference platform, your login credentials, a technical support email address, and links to download Chrome and Zoom should you need them.

9. Can I access the virtual conference on my mobile device?

To have the best virtual conference experience, CDHA recommends that you log in using Google Chrome on a laptop computer or a tablet. You may log in using your mobile device, but your experience will be much more rewarding on a larger device. You should also have the most recent version of Zoom installed on your computer.

10. Will speakers be live streaming during the virtual conference?

The conference program is a blend of live presentations and prerecorded sessions. Most breakout sessions will be prerecorded and broadcast at a specific time with an opportunity to ask the speaker questions live. Speaker Q&As will not be available during the on-demand hosting period immediately following the conference. Check the program at a glance for the type of session being offered.

11. What will my virtual exhibit hall experience be like?

The virtual event platform offers you a unique virtual exhibit hall experience. In the same way that you would navigate in-person exhibit booths, you will move among exhibit booth “tiles” in our online environment! When you visit an exhibit booth, you can drop off a business card, request a meeting or chat with the exhibitor. Related information will be available for you to download and save as a resource.

12. Are you offering a scientific program during the virtual conference?

Yes! Oral and poster presentations are part of the conference program on Friday, October 29. We look forward to sharing dental hygiene research with you and advancing the dental hygiene body of knowledge.

13. How many PD or CE credits will I get after attending the conference?

Professional development hours/continuing education credits are determined by your regulatory body. Please contact your provincial regulatory body to find out how many hours/credits you are eligible to receive. Following the conference, all registrants will be able to download a certificate of attendance from the virtual event platform. A mechanism is in place to verify attendance and viewing of virtual sessions prior to release of the certificate.

14. What if I am unable to attend on October 29 and/or 30?

Register anyway! If you are unable to join us on the days of the conference, you will be able to view the full program on demand until December 31, 2021. You must still register for the conference by October 26 at 12pm ET in order to access the program on-demand.
