This webinar will provide a practical look at effective practice management through the use of technology, and will discuss the nuts and bolts of proper service coding, submitting claims, your unique identification number, and CDHAnet. It will be of particular interest to dental hygienists currently working in, or considering, independent practice. The session will also review several recent regulatory college complaints that are specifically related to dental hygiene practice.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, the dental hygienists will be able to:

  • have a basic understanding of practice management software, including:
    • computer specifications and set up
    • applications, including scheduler, management reports, billing and submission of e-claims, review of management reports
  • understand CDHA's unique numbering system, office numbering, and claim forms
  • be familiar with CDHA's 2012 revised dental hygiene service codes, with particular attention paid to:
    • code descriptions
    • appropriate use
    • frequency limitations
    • proper billing practices


Presenter: Ann Wright

Ann E. Wright, RDH, MBA

Ann graduated in dental hygiene from the University of Toronto in 1971. Throughout her career, she has held numerous positions in dental hygiene. These include working in both private and public health practice, as an examiner for the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario and as a clinical demonstrator in the dental hygiene program in Ottawa, at Algonquin College. She has held positions as regional manager, managing multiple dental offices for a large practice group and as practice management consultant and practice appraiser for a national brokerage firm. Ann completed an MBA in 1995 at the University of Ottawa. Ann is currently the director of dental hygiene practice at the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association.


Moderator: Victoria Leck

Victoria Leck, RDH, MHM

Victoria has 20 years of experience as a dental hygienist, with 18 of those spent in public health. She has also been a faculty member at the Canadian Institute of Dental Hygiene. She is a graduate of the dental hygiene program at Canadore College and holds a bachelor of health administration from Ryerson University. She is currently enrolled in the masters of health management program at McMaster University. Victoria has been actively involved in the Ontario Association of Public Health Dentistry, holding positions on the executive including member at large, secretary and president as well as co-chairing the health promotion and advocacy committee for several years. Victoria is currently the manager of professional development at the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association.
