Submissions to Government - 2006

CDHA presented a brief to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development, and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. CDHA described the links between oral health and overall health, including the link between periodontal disease and health risks such as cardiovascular and respiratory disease, diabetes, and pre-term low birth weight babies. CDHA put forth a number of recommendations, including:

• dental hygienists must be able to work with other general health professionals, and to work unsupervised in order to increase access to services
• adequate access must be provided to post-secondary and continuing education
