This webinar will provide a wealth of ideas and tips on how to join your dental hygienist colleagues in celebrating National Dental Hygienists Week™ (NDHW™), April 8-14, 2017, and raise awareness of the profession and the message “Oral Health for Total Health.” Learn creative ways to participate through community and media outreach, contests, presentations, displays, tours, and other public awareness events and activities.
We’ll share everything you need to know so you can Put Your Purple On! for this exciting nationwide event, including:
- Celebration ideas that you can use at your office, in schools, and in the community, including information about participating in Gift from the Heart.
- Links to the extensive list of downloadable resources on our website.
- Tips on how to join the conversation and use social and traditional media to spread the word.
- Details about CDHA contests that you can promote and participate in, such as Put Your Purple On!, our national colouring contest, and our Purple Power Media Challenge.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will:

Angie is the director of marketing and communications for CDHA. She has worked in the not-for-profit sector for 25 years, supporting healthcare associations for the past 15 years, and specializes in social media engagement, publication and website management, sponsorships and advertising, events management, member and media relations, and advocacy. Angie is a graduate of the Mass Communications and English programs at Carleton University and the Public Relations Certificate Program at Humber College, and a member and past board director of both the Canadian Society of Association Executives and the Canadian Public Relations Society.
Bev has been practising dental hygiene for almost 30 years. Her love for her profession has allowed her to travel down many roads. Bev was instrumental in developing a private career college for dental hygiene in eastern Ontario. She also opened her own dental hygiene office in 2009. She currently holds a seat on the Council of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, representing the Central Eastern district, and also serves as president of her local dental hygiene society. Bev is the co-owner of IDHA, Independent Dental Hygiene Associates, a consulting firm which offers advice on independent practice. Bev’s passion to ensure that no one goes without dental hygiene care led her to found “Gift from the Heart” in 2008. This initiative is a day dedicated to anyone who has difficulty accessing or affording dental hygiene services.
Paula Benbow, RDH, MPH
Paula, a registered dental hygienist and manager of health policy at the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA), has extensive experience in health promotion, advocacy and clinical dental hygiene care. Her role at CDHA involves conducting literature reviews on critical oral health issues, developing position papers and statements, and working with the association’s Education Advisory Committee and Research Advisory Committee to build capacity and advance research in the dental hygiene profession, and to meet the evolving and complex oral health needs of the public.
