Summary

This informative session will clarify the procedure coding and claims submission for independent practice. The first half will focus on changes to IST and fluoride varnish codes as well as commonly used and misused procedure codes. The second half will highlight the newly updated CDHA claim form, electronic claim submission process, e-funds transfer, and code frequency limits. The webinar will also unlock the intricacies of CDHA’s independent practice network, Unique Identification Number system, and CDHAnet database.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will:

  • Understand CDHA's role in database management and troubleshooting
  • Know who to call if problems arise
  • Understand changes and rationale to codes and their descriptors.
  • Understand the electronic claim submission (EDI) and electronic payment (EFT) processes.
  • Understand the transition from ITrans to instream.
  • Become more proficient in reconciling claim issues through a more expansive EDI/EFT knowledge base.

Ann Wright, RDH, MBA

Ann graduated in dental hygiene from the University of Toronto in 1971. Throughout her career, she has held numerous positions in dental hygiene. These include working in both private and public health practice, as an examiner for the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, and as a clinical demonstrator in the dental hygiene program at Algonquin College, Ottawa. Ann completed an MBA in 1995 at the University of Ottawa. Ann is currently the director of dental hygiene practice at the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association.

Amanda Acker, RDH

Amanda has spent over 15 years in the Dental Hygiene profession. When she is not acting as the Independent Practice Advisor with the CDHA, she is developing her multi-disciplinary private practice in Ottawa. Her primary focus is increasing access to care for the public and more specifically among vulnerable populations. Through her community partnerships, and work with CDHA she continues to promote independent dental hygiene and accessible dental care nationwide. She is a proud member of both the National Service Code and Independent Practice Advisory Committee.
