As a student:

5. Attend classes, ask questions, study hard, be proactive in seeking support, and succeed on your exams and assignments.
6. Meet with a career advisor/faculty advisor at your school to go over your career objectives. Find out how you can gain experience to fill any gaps before graduation to make you a better candidate for the type of career you want.
7. Complete your dental hygiene coursework. Make sure that you have completed the required number of classroom, clinical hours, and community hours.

9. Apply to write the National Dental Hygiene Certification Examination at fdhrc.ca (not mandatory for licensure in Quebec.)

13. Once you pass the board exam, upgrade to FREE Graduated Student membership. CDHA’s Graduated Student membership category includes professional liability insurance (PLI) coverage of up to $5 million aggregate until December 31 of the year in which you passed the board exam. (Registration for licensure in Québec includes PLI.)
14. Consider other professional insurance through CDHA such as extended health, dental, and disability coverage.
15. Apply for registration with your provincial regulatory body (Investigate regulatory requirements for practising dental hygiene in the province of your choice. Other requirements such as jurisprudence and criminal record checks may apply.)
16. Explore employment opportunities in our full-service career centre.
